Discovering Organic CBD Oil For Dogs

By Sonia Miles

When it comes to taking care of pets, it is important to know what edibles and tinctures are safe and which are not. In addition, with new trends such as Organic CBD Oil For Dogs, there is a great deal of misinformation being released. As such, it is important to understand the truth behind CBD and other wellness trends.

As with any medication for a pet, it is important to know the facts. In order to assist pet owners, The American Kennel Association's Chief Veterinary Officer has explained the make-up, benefits and drawbacks of CBD products for dogs as shared in this article.

According to the officer and other sources, CBD is found in the hemp and cannabis plant. Although, unlike marijuana which also comes from hemp, CBD does not contain THC. As a result, those using CBD products do not experience the same experience of getting high as those whom smoke, vape, eat or drink products containing marijuana.

There have been no official studies with regards to CBD in relation to dogs or other animals. However, scientists have now discovered that the benefits of CBD comes from an interaction with endo-cannabinoids receptors located in the central nervous system of humans. As a result, the product, when used appropriately, has the capability to balance and keep the body in a healthy state.

While no scientific data has been established with regards to the use of the product in animals, pet owners have found CBD to ease pain and assist in controlling seizures. As such, it appears that effects are the same in dogs as humans.

As CBD has also been known to have heart healthy benefits, calm anxiety, lower blood pressure, ease nausea and kill cancer cells, some are calling it a wonder drug. At the same time, there has been no conclusive proof with regards to this being the case. Still, those whom have, or are using the product whether personally or for pets have confirmed seeing these benefits first hand.

Currently, the AKC Canine Health Foundation is sponsoring a study at the Colorado State University's College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences division which is aimed at evaluating the use of the product in epileptic dogs whom have been resistant to treatment. The organization hopes the study will be the first to prove the use of CBD beneficial in treating various conditions. At the same time, it is important to provide the proper dosage according to the distributor or package of the product.

Just as there has been no scientific proof with regards to benefits, there has also been no scientific proof related to side effects in humans or animals. Although, based on how the product effects some humans, most veterinarians believe there is potential for side effects with dogs and other animals. Some of these side effects include, increased thirst, lowered blood pressure and drowsiness from the calming effect, which is the aspect used to treat anxiety in humans. As such, it is important to monitor the reaction of a pet during the first few rounds of CBD in-take to assure there are no negative reactions or side-effects.
